VISIT to OLEÍCOLA EL TEJAR

On Friday, April 23th, our students who are part of theErasmus+ project "Entrepreneurial Schools in Europe" visited the factory of the cooperative OLEÍCOLA "ELTEJAR".

Students and teachers could see the novel process of use and valorization of the Alperujo,
which is the residue of the multiple oil mills after obtaining our Virgin Olive Oil.

Alperujo is the mixture of the solid (orujo) and the liquid (alpechín), both are residue after
obtaining olive oil from the fruit. What until now was a significant environmental problem in
the olive cooperatives, today it is used to extract 4 products of high economic and ecological
value.

1. The remaining oil that still contains the alperujo is extracted. The residue that remains is
called "Orujillo"
2. This orujillo is used as combustible for three thermal power plants, that are capable of
producing electricity for 40,000 homes. That is! Clean and abundant electrical energy obtained
from a waste.
3. Organic fertilizers are obtained from the ashes of the combustion of the orujillo.
4. Combustion slags are used as additives to asphalts and cements that are used in
construction and to build infrastructures.

Undoubtedly, it is a model industrial process that improves the most of the great economic
resource of our area: the olive tree.
